Fit for Motion is a collaborative effort between the Hickory Foundation YMCA, Hickory Public Schools and the Solmaz Institute for Obesity at Lenoir-Rhyne University. The goal of the program is to develop healthy habits at a young age through nutrition and the importance of 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
All 2nd graders in Hickory Public Schools engage in physical activity implemented by the YMCA and the Solmaz Institute for Obesity provides lessons about healthy choices with the students receiving healthy snacks each week.
During the program, the YMCA sponsors a family night for all of the students and their families, offering guests the opportunity to participate in various exercise activities planned in the gym, the C.O. Miller Teen Center and the indoor pool. The program culminates with a graduation ceremony held at the YMCA.
