Swim Lessons at the Y

Parent/Child swim lessons are FREE at the Y!  The YMCA offers swim lessons for babies and toddlers ages 6 – 36 months and their parents FREE at the Hickory Foundation YMCA. This water introduction program helps the parent and the child get used to the water and see the pool as fun.  You will meet other parents, expose your child to others his or her age and help teach your child basic water safety skills. Parents will be in the water with their child. Classes are taught by enthusiastic, caring instructors that emphasize making the child feel comfortable in the water.

Parents and children play games that introduce basic, introductory water skills such as blowing bubbles, breath control, kicking and floating. The class focuses on water orientation and encourages parents and babies to trust each other in the water.

Lifeguards are always on the pool deck during swim lessons, and babies must wear a swim diaper. Parents must accompany the child in the water.
