Winter Workout Tips and Tricks

With the Holiday season quickly approaching, it’s that time that most seem to lose all sense of fitness motivation. With a dive in temperatures and what seems like less hours left in the day, we certainly realize how difficult it can be to get a workout in. Just because it’s getting close to winter time doesn’t mean you should set your workout aside. Here’s a few things your Y family can do to help you stay motivated:

    1. 1. Coaching Connection– When you enroll, you’ll meet one-on-one with a trained wellness professional. At your first meeting, your coach’s priority is to sit down and listen to your story. They learn about your health history and discuss your likes and dislikes. Most importantly, they learn about your goals. Whether you’re just getting started or have exercised for years your personal goals become your coach’s primary focus. You’ll meet with a coach once a week for six weeks.
During this time, your coach will help you create a comprehensive wellness plan that will get you on track for meeting your goals. The Y is committed to your success, so you can re-enroll in the program as often as you need. Please stop by the front desk to set up your first appointment. For additional information email [email protected] or see a Wellness Staff Member.

    2. Group Fitness Classes– The YMCA offers a wide variety of free fitness classes for members. We also allow non-members to register for many of these classes (some require registration and fees for non-members). Some classes may require a minimum or maximum number of participants. Please see a fitness schedule for class days and times. A schedule can be picked up at our member services desk, on the YMCA web site or on display in our Wellness Center.

Our fitness classes can help with cardio, strength and flexibility in different degrees. Changing fitness classes to focus on a different element can often be the next step your body needs. We have expert, trained fitness staff that can help you find the best class for your needs.

    3. Personal Training– We all need the advice of an expert sometimes, as well as the personal attention that comes with a trainer or coach. The Y offers personal, semi-private and small group training to help you set and meet your specific goals in order to live healthier. Working out with a personal trainer will give you:

    · Structure – Meeting your Personal Trainer for appointments will ensure that you stick to your exercise commitment.
    · Results – Personal Trainers are educated to ensure you get results, so they help you make the most of your time at the YMCA.
    · Variety – They will keep your training interesting with different exercises and techniques to keep you on track all aimed at achieving your goals.
    · Motivation – Progress means results, and seeing results helps motivate you to strive for that next level of fitness!
    · Progression – As your fitness improves, your Personal Trainer will always modify your exercise to ensure maximum enjoyment and maximum results!
