Why the Y? I hear that question asked so often. 

In a world of endless choices, you can go anywhere, do anything, buy anything to make your life better, easier but can you say that you can always find something that engages you Spirit, Mind and Body the way the Y does? The Y isn’t just a gym or a pool. It’s the people who make the Y special. It’s the things you take with you when you leave the Y after each visit that make it about so much more than just a gym. Beginning February 16th from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm, Adult Pickleball (Ages 18-40) will be offered at the Hickory Branch in the gymnasium on Tuesdays. Two courts will be available with rotation of participants. Equipment is provided and the program is free for YMCA members.

For so long the Y has been known as a gym and swim throughout the communities that Ys serve each and everyday, but in reality the Y is improving community all throughout this country and many others.  The reality is that that the Y is so much more.  Each day the YMCA of Catawba Valley is improving community through offering programs and services that help people of all ages and in all stages of life.  The Y has three areas of focus and each one helps us achieve our goals.

OrthoCarolina and the Y are partnering to offer exercise classes for YMCA youth members aged 10 – 15.   Kathryn Ashworth, PTA, will conduct the classes in the Frye Community Room. The functional movement classes will be taught on Mondays beginning February 8th and will focus on strengthening of their “core” and helping with their abilities to run, jump, exercise and perform in sports or recreational activities all while having fun!  The class for youth aged 10-12 will be 4:30 pm-5:00 pm and the class for youth aged 13 –  15 will be 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm. Now is the time to start teaching your child the fundamentals of soccer.  Our soccer program seeks to lay a foundation for parents to spend quality time with their children while learning how to properly teach and support them in sports, watch them have fun, learn new skills and meet new friends.  Sports provide an opportunity to teach values like caring, honest, respect and responsibility.  YMCA Youth Sports help young people by emphasizing skill development.

Holy Yoga is back due to popular demand on Sundays from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm at the Hickory Branch beginning February 7. As a highly skilled and certified Holy Yoga instructor,  Andrea will provide a world-class yoga experience that is 100% focused on connecting to Christ. Our Holy Yoga classes include prayer, Scripture and primarily contemporary Christian music.

Celebrate your own confident and capable daughter by bringing her to princess date night on February 6th from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Fathers, uncles and grandfathers escort your favorite daughter, niece and granddaughter to the annual Princess Date Night. You and your special date will enjoy a very special and memorable evening together. A disc jockey will be spinning some sounds for your dancing enjoyment.  Steak and chicken dinner with fun activities will be available.  A photographer will be on hand to capture the moment and provide a keepsake to take home. Come dressed in semi-formal attire – recommended coat and tie for dad and dresses for daughters.
