You may not realize it but the YMCA of Catawba Valley is a leading non-profit agency in the area. So many people think the Y is just a gym but really the Y is here to serve the needs of the community. One way the Y is serving the community is through offering financial assistance for fitness programs. Financial assistance is a way for the Y to make sure it is open to all. Many times people are not aware of this service.
How we provide Financial Assistance for Fitness Programs to our community
Last year the Y gave out more than $500,000 in financial assistance for fitness programs. The reason the Y does that is that it is part of its mission to be open to all. We want everyone to have the opportunity to be part of the Y. This program is open to anyone in the community needing our services who truly cannot afford them. Participants are required to show proof of income in order to qualify for this program. Every year this program helps children, adults, families, and seniors. It is about making sure everyone has access to our programs and services. At the Y, open to all is not just something we talk about, it is something we are about. It is in our mission statement, to put Christian principles into practice to build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Financial assistance for fitness programs is one way we do that. It truly separates us from fitness centers. The Y cares more about making the community a better place than it does about excluding people from the Y. We want everyone to live an active healthy lifestyle. The more people that take advantage of our programs and services the more people we can have achieving that goal. The Y is more than just a fitness center it is a cause and our cause is strengthening community.
