Tremendous Growth for the YMCA Valley Connection

The Nautilus known for its comfortable atmosphere and friendly environment afforded the YMCA Valley Connection to experienced tremendous growth and a Capital Campaign was led by John Pope and Harvey Christensen to fund an expansion project that was completed in 2003 that incorporated the upper level of the building. This provided more space for programming and expansion of the locker rooms. The name was changed to Valley Connection YMCA to be inline with the names of the other two branches.

YMCA Valley Connection Opened

The YMCA of Catawba Valley purchased The Nautilus Fitness & Sports Center from Kendra Holcomb in 1998 to alleviate the over crowed issues they were experiencing at their other two branches in Conover and Hickory.

The Nautilus was located centrally between The Hickory Foundation YMCA and the Adrian Shuford YMCA.

The Nautilus had been serving the Catawba Valley since 1969. Kendra Holcomb was asked to join the YMCA staff team as the Executive Director of the new YMCA.
