Membership to the Y is more than a facility – it is an opportunity to build and develop relationships with other positive adults in a wholesome Christian atmosphere; it is a sense of belonging where total health is obtained in a safe environment.
However, during these 38 years much has changed:
The YMCA has grown from serving the eastern side of the county in one location to serving the entire county in five locations.
Volunteer numbers have grown to, more than 250 people who volunteer to work with children and teens in Y programs; nearly 100 volunteers serve on Boards and Committees enabling the Y to annually serve 33,000 persons, 50% under the age of 18.
Childcare has grown so that today the Y is the largest non-governmental provider of Childcare in the county, caring for 500 children every day, 50% under the age of 5; in four centers (65% of the children receive some form of financial assistance).
Teens, one of the fastest growing groups in Catawba County, are being served at the new C.O. Miller Teen Center. Nearly 4,000 teens participated in a variety of programs and activities during the past year.
Thanks for being part of the YMCA!
